It was a pleasure seeing you at last Friday's open meeting. As I mentioned, the board's objectives include improving communication and facilitating a lively flow ideas within the MA-ASTA community. Please take advantage of the new facebook page and the Website's suggestions box.
A number of issues affecting our chapter will require your input in the near future. For example, the national board has proposed that the region's smaller chapters of New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont merge with Massachusetts. (These neighboring states are interested in discussing the idea.) We have already adopted members from Maine, which no longer has a state chapter. More information will be coming your way soon
Congratulations again to Clayton Hoener, 2013 Studio Teacher of the Year, and Mark Smith, 2013 Orchestra Director of the Year.
We are pleased to announce the results of the first annual MA-ASTA Composition Competition. Our judge was Mark Berger. The results are as follows:
First Prize: The Sound (for solo violin) by Mischa Salkind-Pearl
Second Prize: Cafes and Jazz Clubs (for violin and piano) by Gabriel Zucke
Honorable Mention: Capriccio Dondolante (for violin and piano) by Keane Southard
The Sound and Cafes and Jazz Clubs will soon be made available for purchase through the MA-ASTA website.
Looking forward to hearing from you,
